365 Things to do in Portland #175: Otto’s Sausage Kitchen and Meat Market
If you’re ever travelling down SE Woodstock and wondering what that delicious smoky aroma is, chances are you’re nearing Otto’s Sausage Kitchen and Meat Market. The business, in its first permutation was started by Otto Eichentopf in Germany in 1890 and was transferred to its current location in Portland in 1922. 120 years from its original conception, Otto’s fourth generation of family sausage makers is still going strong.
If you’re planning a backyard barbeque of your own, stop by and purchase fresh homemade Bockwurst, Cajun Andouille, Chicken Sausage, Jerky, Old Fashion Wieners, Pastrami, Pepperoni Sticks, Smoked Pork Links, Summer Sausage or one of their specially made grill packs. All Otto’s sausage is traditionally made with Oregon beef or pork from Carlton farms and has no gluten, fillers or additives of any kind.
You can grab any of the above options for immediate consumption from their outdoor smoker (open seven days a week, rain or shine). The delicatessen also offers homemade salads and sandwiches as well as a large selection of domestic and foreign cheeses, soda, wine and beer. Meals can be taken to go or enjoyed on their indoor and outdoor seating.
