The Kerns neighborhood is located in Central/Southeast Portland, just on the East side of the Willamette River, North of Burnside Street. It is bordered by the Buckman, Lloyd, Sullivan’s Gulch, Laurelhurst and Sunnyside neighborhoods The commercial center is along East Burnside and Sandy Blvd.
Schools in the neighborhood include da Vinci Arts Middle School and Benson Polytechnic High School. This neighborhood has three parks- Buckman Field, Oregon Park and Everett Community Garden. Schools include Benson Polytechnic High School and da Vinci Arts Middle School.
This neighborhood is close-in to downtown and has a high amount of commercial properties, mostly running along NE Sandy and Burnside Avenues, but also on most streets West of 11th Avenue. You’ll find older homes mixed in with apartment complexes throughout this neighborhood.
The 28th and Burnside area is the epicenter and has been dubbed “restaurant row” where foodies reign and enjoy delights such as Tabla Mediterranean Bistro, Pambiche Cuban restaurant, Navarre restaurant as well as the Laurelhurst Theater which supplies new and old movies with delicious Pizzicato Pizza. There is also a small Whole Foods Market on 28th and Burnside.
