Laurelhurst is one of East side Portland’s most beautiful and established neighborhoods. Laurelhurst neighborhood is close to downtown Portland, but has a very quiet feel to it. The boundaries for Laurelhurst are Stark Street on the South Side, I84 on the North, 32nd Ave on the Western border, and 44th on the Eastern side. It has excellent access to public transportation with buses on Stark, Burnside Street and 39th Ave (Caesar Chavez). There are nearby restaurants in the Kerns neighborhood, a Trader Joe’s in close by in the Hollywood District, Lloyd Center mall in Sullivan’s Gulch,plenty of boutiques & groceries including a Fred Meyer & New Seasons in the Sunnyside neighborhood’s Hawthorne district.

Laurelhurst neighborhood has many beautiful homes, which include estates, bungalows, Tudors, Old Portland homes, craftsman homes, mid century, and even a few modern homes. Laurelhurst real estate prices tend to be higher than other popular neighborhood in Southeast & Northeast Portland- especially in the really nice part of the neighborhood. You can find more competitive prices on some of the smaller homes and towards the edges of the neighborhood.

Laurelhurst neighborhood is best known for Laurelhurst Park, which is one my favorite parks in Portland. Laurelhurst park covers 30 acres and has a huge duck pond, jogging trails, off leash dog area, picnic tables, horseshoes, tennis courts, basketball, racquetball, and a playground. What’s really great about this park is that it is designed with a ‘natural landscaping approach’, so it feels very natural and peaceful. On sunny days, the park is filled with relaxing people picnicking, families barbecuing, frisbee games and anyone just trying to get some fresh air. Head to the park early mornings and you’ll have the place to yourself- except for a few dogs and their owners, some people practicing Chi Gong, and of course the ducks.
