Foster / Powell neighborhood has for many years been described as an ‘up and coming’ neighborhood. In my early years as a Realtor, it was one of the most affordable close-in Eastside neighborhoods, and many young and first time buyers were willing to trade a little of hip factor associated with other neighborhoods (like Alberta, Hawthorne or Mississippi) for the affordable prices and neighborhood potential.
Foster / Powell is what I’d call a ‘slow growth’ neighborhood- unlike Alberta, which seems to sprout new construction and stores almost weekly. Many of the oddball neighborhood stores have been here for many years, and there aren’t any hip neighborhood coffee houses you’ll find in many other neighborhoods. What you will find are some great deals, potential for future neighborhood development and some retail stores you just won’t find in any other neighborhood.
