This neighborhood is also often referred to as the Clinton Neighborhood, or sometimes Division Neighborhood, as those are the two major streets in the area.

Division Street offers a cross section of Portland retail and appears to be gaining happy urban renewal, complete with art galleries, upscale restaurants, and lounges.

One claim to fame is Kung Fu Bakery , a professional recording studio used by the likes of Capitol Records and artists such as Everclear, The Decemberists, The Shins, and Pink Martini. There is no sign out front, and nothing marks the door more than a Chinese proverb.  Similarly on Division, a building with absolutely no outside clue is home to one of the most expensive, per capita stockpiles of coffee beans on the planet, belonging to none other than the growing coffee empire that is Stumptown.
Let’s not forget the friendliest store in the neighborhood, New Season’s Market, on division and 21st, which is a staple for the local community. Another favorite is Clays Smokehouse, 2932 Southeast Division, which has been the local smokehouse for years. The place just feels easy, and you feel like you’re getting a home cooked meal. Here’s a secret most people don’t’ know: the owner, Michael Slyman, will smoke a turkey for you over thanksgiving and give you the gravy! As for a new highlight, Sushi Mazi, located at 2126 Se Division St, is fresh on the scene with the most creative sushi Portland has to offer. Mazi means “really” and it was names because the chef, Pakawat Marc Suwansathien , couldn’t believe he was really moving to Portland. He came to visit and fell in love with the city and moved here immediately and opened this five star sushi restaurant. His sushi is creative, delicious and plentiful.

If you’re into healthy, organic food and green living, People’s Food Coop is a great resource in the neighborhood. I used to volunteer there as a member in the 90′s- it’s a great place to tap into Portland’s sustainability scene. People’s Food Coop also has a farmers market every Wednesday, all year long.

Just a block over from Division, you will find Clinton Street. The heart of Clinton is between 24th and 26th Ave, where you will find a few smaller shops and restaurants and plenty of bike and foot traffic.
