Hayhurst is a neighborhood in one of the further out Southwest Portland areas.
Gentle hills and lots of mature vegetation/trees create a rustic feel to this primarily residential neighborhood. You’ll mostly find mid century homes, with a sprinkling of older homes and new construction. Many homes have nice views, larger lots and trees. Access to wide green space parks are among the reasons families are drawn to this area.
A popular destination located in this neighborhood is the historic Alpenrose Dairy. It’s 52 acres contains a velodrome (1 of 25 in the US), baseball & softball fields, dollhouse, ice cream parlor, opera house with a 4000 pipe organ and quarter-midget auto racing arena, in addition to the dairy itself which produces. Hayhurst Elementary School sits adjacent to Pendleton Park, which also boasts an eight foot rabbit, baseball diamond, and Vermont Hills Community Garden. Other neighborhood schools include Gray Middle and Wilson High Schools. Nearby Gabriel Park is also a larger destination for many outdoor and indoor activities.
